Sinbad the Sailor
Reynoldston Village Hall
Thursday 13, and Friday 14 March at 7:30pm
and Saturday 15 March at 6:00pm

With a cast of 40, and a total number of 80 people involved from all over Gower – Reynoldston, Rhosilli, Horton, Port Eynon, Pennard, Llandewi, Cilibion, Llangennith and Sketty, ‘Sinbad the Sailor’ was a real community event. It took place in Reynoldston Village Hall on Thursday 13, and Friday 14 March at 7:30pm and on Saturday 15 March at 6:00pm. To a combined audience of 470 people

In a very ‘Eastern’ set with music to sing along to, gorgeous costumes, special lighting, and dance ‘Sinbad the Sailor’ provided an excellent night out with fun for all the family.

The cast brought together a Prince and Princess played by talented young members Tom Boulding and Sophie Harris; Sinbad and Selina played by Ruth Lloyd and Alison Carman, and an outrageous Dame, played by Steve Murray in his first staring role, falling into the arms of the Sea Captain played by Courtney Grove – as well as dancing camels, diamonds and rubies, and not forgetting three curvaceous belly dancers and a host of other characters – goodies and baddies!

GENIE OF THE RING

I am the genie of the ring
A substitute for the real thing;
Why do you all look so forlorn?
Just ‘cos the panto’s been and gorn!!

Our thanks to all of those who gave
Us of their time – and those quite brave
To flaunt themselves upon the boards
And those backstage – the hidden hordes.

David gave us lots of tunes
And sat patiently for many moons;
Enid taught the dancing girls
All their twisting and their twirls.

Alan, Paul and John and Hugh
Jim and Mary to name a few
Who came down here with paint and saws
Building settings for the cause.

David, Robin and their team
Who gave us lights and puffs of steam,
Noises off, the strangest sounds -
The talent here just knows no bounds.

All gave support without a grouse –
Our thanks go too to front of house;
To Sylvia who scoured the shops
To provide us with a range of props.

To Carley, Sue and Andrea - tailors
Who kitted out Sinbad the Sailor;
Our grateful thanks go out to Meryl
Who missed a prompt line at her peril.

If any others I have missed
It’s probably because [I’ve had a few]
You must excuse my ageing brain
And please do help us out again.

You met the caliph and the king;
The beautiful Peri of the ring.
The camels with their desert humps;
The belly dancer with nice bumps!!

Shining princess, handsome prince
Salubria with her dodgy rinse
A sea captain with doubtful taste
In women who have gone to waste.

Some you hissed – and some you cheered;
You booed the Old Man with the beard
And Madam Abdullah with Persian rug
And Pirate’s Mate – an evil thug.
And Alibad and Ali worse
Who robbed the Diamond Canyon purse.

Tiny children, dancers fair,
Slaves and sailors everywhere.
An elephant with a giant trunk;
Mustapha with his fortune sunk;

Fair Selina – there was none sweeter –
Baghdad’s answer to Catherine Zeta?
We watched our Sinbad dance and sing –
And rubbing up her ruby ring!!

I’ve referred to nearly all the cast
But of course have kept the best till last –
You will have noted with some relief
I’ve not yet mentioned - the Pirate Chief.

A sterling fellow – strong and stout
With Junior Baba to add some clout –
Together they ruled Arabian waves
Looting ships and selling slaves.

The last few months have been quite super
And all this down to Jenny Cooper -
Without her there would be no show -
But now it’s time for us to go.

Thanks to all who helped us through;
Without you - what would we do?
But now it’s time to shed a tear –
cos that’s all folks until next year!!

So - be you lasses; be you laddies;
Be you goodies; be you baddies;
Be you pirates; be you sailors;
It’s over now – “Sinbad the Sailor”.
